In New Mexico, the Protective Services Division (PSD) is the state department in charge of child welfare services. According to the New Mexico Children's Code, Section 32A-4 et seq., NMSA 1997, the PSD is required to obtain and investigate complaints of children in need of protection from violence and/or neglect by their parent, guardian, or custodian, and to take measures to protect those children whose safety cannot be ensured at home.
